Calder Graduate Sara Louise Wins Pocahontas S. BETTER THAN HONOUR BRINGS $14-MILLION AT FASIG-TIPTON Better Than Honour and Stardom Bound stole the show as expected on Sunday night at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale, bringing a combined $19.7-million to trigger a 35.1% increase in total receipts. The reigning Broodmare of the Year, Better Than Honour sold for $14-million to Mike Moreno’s Southern Equine Stable to set a world record for a broodmare at public auction. IEAH Stables purchased Stardom Bound, the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner, for $5.7-million earlier in the night as a racing prospect. The sale was a welcome oasis in a market swoon that has been exacerbated by general economic turbulence. Fasig-Tipton reported sales of 91 horses from 150 offerings
for $70,279,000 and an average price of $772,297, both sale records. The
average was up 58.8% from $486,318. The median was $250,000 a 38.9% increase
from $180,000 in 2007.
